IMPORTANT INFORMATION-CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT APPLICATION
Posted on Aug 13th, 2014

A few of the Beaumont residents living adjacent to the Beaumont YMCA have received the following notification from the LFUCG Board of Adjustment and believe all BNA residents need to be alerted to this proposed YMCA daycare request:

The Beaumont YMCA has filed a conditional use appeal with the
Lexington-Fayette Urban County Board of Adjustment.
The purpose of the appeal is as follows:
We wish to establish a child care center in an R-3 Residential Zone, which is a conditional use.  Per licensing requirements we would be able to serve up to 250 kids.  We would have preschool and SACC care.

Kimberly Vaughn from the Y offered more details through email correspondence:

Afterschool care 2:30-6 p.m., Monday-Friday.  Summer Camp June/July/August 7 a.m.- 6 p.m.  All days, snow days and Spring Break Camp as we have always done here.
Ages talked about were 3-5 and potty trained with around 20 kids all day and 8 half day for a total of 28 kids.  Current plan, per our Association office, is to hold off on pursuing preschool at this time.  IF we revisit wouldn’t be until next Fall 2015 is what we have been told.  We offer afterschool for Rosa Parks & Beaumont Middle students that will begin this Wednesday.  Those are the same schools we hosted all of last year as well.  Traffic is minimal with pick-up for afterschool.
Multi-purpose room for afterschool will be used as it was last year.  We do not have scheduled classes in there during that time.  Afterschool is moved around to get some physical activity in, but spaces used are open at that time with no other member programming being displaced.
To become licensed for afterschool care and summer camp, it is my understanding from our Child Development Department/Association Office we need this permit.

This is concerning not only as a neighbor having to deal with extra traffic on Beaumont Center Circle but also as a Y member.  Even putting a significant limit on the number of kids they are licensed to serve will help.
In order to provide citizens an opportunity to express their views regarding this appeal there will be a public hearing on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers, on the Second Floor of the Lexington-Fayette Government Building, at 200 East Main Street.
